U.S. Intercollegiate Final Results
STANFORD, Calif. - Senior Alex Moore and junior Nick Sherwood each shot a 2-over 72 on Sunday to help the Oregon State men's golf team finish in seventh place at the 16-team U.S. Intercollegiate in Stanford, Calif.
The Beavers concluded the three-day, 54-hole tournament with a 42-over 287-303-292--882 at the par-70, 6,742-yard Stanford Golf Course. The Stanford B team doesn't count in the overall standings so Oregon State moves up a spot to finish in seventh place.
"The course played very tough this week," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "After yesterday I was happy to see that the guys came to play and didn't let the poor round yesterday prevent them from being ready today."
Junior Nick Chianello placed the highest among the five Oregon State golfers on the individual leader board, finishing in a tie for 19th place with a 6-over 66-73-77--216.
"Nick Chianello had a very solid tournament," Reehoorn said. "I know he is disappointed with how today went, but he has some very good things to take from the weekend."
Moore had his best round of the tournament on Sunday and finished in a tie for 46th place with a 13-over 73-78-72--223, while senior Jonnie Motomochi was steady throughout with a 15-over 74-76-75--225.
Senior Casey King also posted his best round on the final day to finish with a 20-over 81-76-73--230 and Sherwood knocked 12 strokes off his second round to also finish with a 20-over 74-84-72--230. Both golfers finished in a tie for 71st place.
The Beavers have one more tournament, the Aggie Invitational in College Station, Texas on April 22-23, before hosting the Pac-12 Championships April 27-29 at Trysting Tree Golf Club.
"We have a couple of weeks off now to get ready for Texas A&M and then hosting Pac-12's," Reehoorn said. "We need to begin to solidify our top five/six and possibly see if David Fink might be ready to go in a couple of weeks."
