Amer Ari Invitational Live Scoring
WAIKOLOA, Hawaii - Sophomore David Fink fired a 1-under 71 with five birdies in the second round of the 22nd Annual Amer Ari Invitational on Thursday and the Oregon State men's golf team is tied for 17th heading into Friday's final round.
The Beavers finished with a 6-over 294 at the par-72, 7,074-yard Waikoloa Kings Course on Thursday after opening with a 3-over 291 on Wednesday at the three-day, 54-hole tournament that is ranked as the second toughest college event of the spring season by Golf Digest with eight of the 20 teams ranked among the top-25 in the nation.
"It was another tough day," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "The guys really competed at the beginning of the round with the wind blowing harder than it has all week. We were in great position to take advantage of the downwind holes at the end to put ourselves back in the hunt for a good finish and we just couldn't execute.
"We are still making the same sloppy mental mistakes that can only be blamed on me," Reehoorn added. "I've got to do a better job of helping them prepare mentally and executive the game plan."
Fink started his round on the sixth hole and was 3-under through his first nine holes before two bogeys and a double put him at 1-over par. But he finished his round with birdies on his final two holes - the 513-yard, par-5 fourth and the 327-yard, par-4 fifth - to finish as the only Beaver with a sub-par round.
Junior Nick Sherwood had another solid round with a 1-over 73 that included four birdies and five bogeys and leads Oregon State golfers through two rounds with an even-par 71-73--144 for a tie for 39th place on the individual leader board.
Senior All-American Alex Moore is tied for 54th place with a 2-over 71-75--146 after surprisingly recording only one birdie on Thursday, while junior Nick Chianello shot a 3-over 75 on Thursday after opening with a 2-over 74.
Freshman Scott Kim knocked three shots off his opening round with a 5-over 77 on Thursday that included birdies on the 332-yard, par-4 13th hole and the 501-yard, par-5 18th hole.
The final round begins with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. PT on Friday and live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
