PERSONAL--(Pronounced SWOAPS) Born 5/13/79 in Hayward, CA...son of David and Adrienne Swopes...his father is a supervisor at United Motors and his mother is a supervisor at PG&E...he enjoys basketball and drawing...plans to major in psychology at OSU and plans to be a clinical psychologist...graduated from Moreau Catholic High School with a 3.1 GPA...Calvin Jenkins, a prep teammate, is a member of the Air Force football team...Deion Sanders is his favorite athlete...selected OSU because, "special attention received by students and good liberal arts and research school."
OSU-(1999-Junior)--David enrolled spring quarter and participated in spring drills...David started the spring No. 3 on the depth chart at tailback and finished the spring in the same spot...fits into the Beavers' offensive scheme with his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield as well as block and carry the ball in a one back set...in OSU's three major scrimmages, David carried the ball 8 times for 19 yards and caught 1 pass for 18 yards at Roseburg on April 17...attended a funeral during the second scrimmage and in the final spring game at Hillsboro in May, David carried the ball 5 times for 37 yards and 1 touchdown for the Black squad, plus he caught 1 pass for 3 yards...David was able to post a 300-pound bench press lift during the spring.
CITY COLLEGE OF SAN FRANCISCO--(1997-98)--Carried the football 159 times for 880 yards (5.5 average) and 10 touchdowns in eight regular season games, missing two games with an injury...produced 1,062 yards in all-purpose running in eight games, an average of 132.8 yards per game...he rushed for 880 yards and had 182 receiving yards on 8 receptions (22.8 average)...he ranked 30th among junior college players in the nation with 132.8 yards per game in all-purpose running...averaged 110.0 yards per game rushing, 19th best among junior college running backs...he caught 24 passes as a sophomore...played behind Kevin Brown, who led the Pac-10 in rushing at Washington State in 1998, as a freshman at CCSF, but still rushed for 405 yards on 33 carries (12.3 average) and scored 5 touchdowns, including a long run of 67 yards...caught 12 passes for 180 yards (15.0 average) and 3 touchdowns, including a long run of 55 yards...played for Coach George Rush at CCSF...
