PERSONAL—Born 9/5/81 in Eugene, OR...son of Mike and Cherie Jenkins...he has six brothers and sisters, Reggie, 30; Casey, 28; Kerry, 23; Andy, 19; Sari-Jane, 14 and Jordan, 11...he entered OSU with 3.34 GPA out of South Salem High School...he is currently enrolled in the UESP program and has not selected a major...he selected OSU because, “of the opportunity to play football and baseball.”
OSU—(2002—Sophomore)—Riley, a walk-on, spent the 2001 season rehabbing from knee (right) sugery...he missed the first part of spring drills before getting clearance for contact the final two weeks of the spring...he did not participate in the first two scrimmages...he was the backup tailback for the winning Black squad during the Spring Game and carried the ball nine times for 44 yards, an average of 4.9 yards per carry...he is a hard runner and has proven to be a very tough competitor...he will return to fall camp listed No. 4 on the depth chart at tailback...due to his knee surgery, he was only able to participate in the bench press during winter conditioning and lifted 305 pounds.
(2001—Freshman Redshirt)—After a terrific spring, Riley was expecting to see his first action for OSU in 2001...however, he suffered a season-ending knee (right) injury during fall camp (August 25) and had ACL reconstruction surgery on September 12...Riley spent the 2000 season as a redshirt walk-on wide receiver…he reported to spring drills as a tailback and was No. 4 on the depth chart at the start of spring drills…Riley surprised a lot of people during the spring with his toughness and athletic ability…in OSU’s first scrimmage, he was the leading rusher with 68 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown…he added 44 yards on 13 carries in the second scrimmage and in the spring game he rushed for 43 yards on seven carries for the losing White team…he reported to fall camp as the No. 4 tailback…in the winter program, Riley posted lifting bests of 450 in the squat, 275 in the bench press and 275.6 in the power clean.
(2000-Freshman)—Riley reported to fall camp as a walk-on wide receiver and redshirted during the 2000 season while playing on the scout squad.
SOUTH SALEM HIGH SCHOOL, Salem, OR—(1997-00)—Riley earned eight letters at South Salem, three in football, three in baseball and two in basketball...played running back, wide receiver and free safety for Coach Terry Haugen...played second base and shortstop in baseball and point guard in basketball for Coach Barry Adams...he was named the Athlete of the Year in Salem by Statesman-Journal following his senior year...he was the Valley League Player of the Year in baseball following his senior year and a first team all-state (The Oregonian) selection...he was a third team all-state pick, he was a first team all-league pick at wide receiver and second team free safety as a junior...as a senior, he improved to first team all-league at free safety and second team all-league at running back.
