PERSONAL—Born 5/18/83 in Orlando, FL…son of Jessie and Charity Jackson…Jamaal is in the College of Liberal Arts and is a liberal studies major…has two older sisters, Dwanita, 25, and Tameta, 21.
OSU—(2003—Sophomore)—Jamaal earned his letter in 2002 as a redshirt freshman by playing in all 13 games, mainly on special teams...Jamaal reported to spring drills with an opportunity to compete for one of the two starting cornerback jobs...at the conclusion of spring drills he was listed No. 3 on the depth chart at left corner behind Aric Williams and Kellen Marshall...he will still have an opportunity in fall camp to move up on the depth chart when fall camp opens...Jamaal has posted career bests in the weight room of 355 in the back squat, 355 in the bench press, 264.6 in the power clean and 242.5 in the push press...his top vertical jump is 33 inches and his top time in the 40 is 4.45.
(2002—Freshman Redshirt)—Jamaal played in all 13 games as a rookie in 2002, mostly on special teams...he played on coverage and return teams...he recorded two tackles on coverage teams and blocked a field goal against Fresno State...he was OSU’s fifth cornerback in the rotation during the season...Jamaal reported for spring drills listed No. 3 on the depth chart at right cornerback...Jamaal elevated his stock with his play during the spring and moved up to No. 2 on the depth chart at right corner at the conclusion of spring drills...he had an interception for the winning Black squad during the Spring Game...the redshirt season was good for Jamaal as he was able to gain more size and strength...during winter conditioning, Jamaal posted weightlifting bests of 315 in the back squat, 315 in the bench press, 237 in the power clean and 215 in the push press...his best vertical jump was 32.5 inches.
(2001—Freshman)— Jamaal spent the 2001 season as a redshirt cornerback and participated on the Beavers’ defensive scout team.
EDGEWATER HIGH SCHOOL, Orlando, FL—Jamaal was a three-year letterman and a three-year starter for the Edgewater Eagles…he also earned four letters in baseball as an outfielder and started all four years…earned two letters in track and field as a sprinter…played football for Coach Bill Gierke…ran the 40 in 4.4 in high school...also played wide receiver…he earned first-team all-league (Metro Conference) honors as a senior as well as being named first team All-Central Florida…he participated in three Metro all-star football games in the month of December in Florida…he recorded seven pass interceptions in his senior season (2000)…Edgewater was 8-3 his senior year…according to Gierke, he was recruited by all of the Division 1 schools in Florida, plus Georgia and South Carolina…Gierke said, “this is my 28th year of coaching high school football and I believe Jamaal has a chance to be an outstanding player in college football on either side of the ball. I think he would make a great wide receiver in Dennis Erickson’s system.”
