Foltz comes to Corvallis from Minnesota and brings more than a half a decade of coaching experience with him
Andy Foltz enters his first season as novice coach for the Oregon State women's rowing team. Before coming to Corvallis, the Sumner, Wash. native spent time at the University of Minnesota in the same capacity for two seasons.
While at the U of M, Foltz's novice 8+ won their heat at the 2012 San Diego Crew Classic and took 4th overall, the highest placing school East of California in the event. His novice squads notched a total of five wins in 2011-12 and he had two freshmen that were selected for US Rowing's Freshman Camp. In 2010-11 he sent one of his freshmen to the same the US Rowing camp.
Prior to his position at Minnesota, Foltz served as a volunteer coach and a graduate assistant with the University of Washington. As a volunteer with the Huskies, Foltz assisted with novice coaching where he had two undefeated seasons and a pair of Pac-10 championships in the First novice Eight. Along with his coaching abilities, Foltz also assisted with recruiting and coaches' clinics during his time atUW.
From 2007-08 Foltz was also was the assistant junior girls coach with the Sammamish (Wash.) Rowing Association. During that time, he coached the Varsity Lightweight 8+, 4+ and 2x to National Championship qualifications as well as coaching multiple boats to silver medals at the US Rowing NW Regional Championships.
In the summer of 2012 Foltz shadowed the Men's U23 Coaches as they selected 8+ for the world Championships.
Foltz graduated from Western Washington in 2007 with an undergraduate degree in exercise and sport science with a sport psychology specialization. He went on to earn a master's degree in intercollegiate athletic leadership from Washington in 2009.
PERSONAL Originally from Sumner, Wash... Has a dog named Azy ... When he's not on the docks Foltz enjoys cycling, running and training for his first Ironman ... Hobbies include watching football and reading about Leadership, business and marketing.
