June 8, 2011
TUCSON, Ariz. - Oregon State designated hitter Kavin Keyes became the 10th Beaver all-time to be named a freshman All-America by Louisville Slugger when the publication Collegiate Baseball announced the team on Wednesday.
Keyes is batting a team-leading .316 as the Beavers head into their NCAA Super Regional which starts Friday in Nashville, Tenn. The Utah native has 10 doubles, a home run and 30 RBI in 53 games - 48 starts - this season.
He was also named an All-Pac-10 First Team selection prior to the start of the postseason.
Keyes' selection gives the Beavers at least one Louisville Slugger All-American for the past four seasons, joining Kevin Rhoderick (2008), Sam Gaviglio (2009) and Matt Boyd (2010). Current Major Leaguers Jacoby Ellsbury (2003) and Darwin Barney (2005) both earned the distinction as well.
The Beavers headed to Nashville Wednesday for their Super Regional, which starts Friday night at 5 p.m. PT (7 p.m. in Nashville) with the game on ESPNU in HD. Make sure and follow the official Oregon State Twitter at Twitter.com/Beaver_Baseball for updates.
