Robertson, Schwartz Lead Six Rowers on Pac-10 Academic Team

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -
Six Oregon State men’s rowers received recognition for their work in the classroom when the Pac-10 Conference’s All-Academic teams were announced Tuesday by Commissioner Larry Scott.
Spencer Robertson and Sam Schwartz received first team honors for the second year in a row while Chris Gannon, Scott Mersereau, Chris Nofziger and Wyatt Worrel earned second team.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, student-athletes must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and be either a starter or significant contributor and have attended their institution for a year or more.
Robertson, a senior studying Biology, rowed in the Beavers’ Varsity 8 all season, mostly in the 3-seat. While Schwartz, a senior studying Construction Engineering Management, performed mostly in the 6-seat of the Junior Varsity 8. It is the third straight year earning Pac-10 All-Academic First Team for Schwartz, while Robertson made the squad for the second time.
Mersereau, a senior studying Construction Engineering Management, along with juniors Gannon and Nofziger, both Civil Engineering majors, and Worrel, an Exercise and Sport Science major earned Pac-10 All-Academic honors for the first time in their careers. Worrel rowed in the 6-seat of the Varsity 8 most of the season, while Gannon and Nofziger performed in the 2- and 3-seats of the JV boat. Mersereau rowed in the Varsity 4+ in 2011.
