Moore Qualifies For U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship

June 6, 2011
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Alex Moore is continuing his incredible season as he earned a spot in the 2011 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship to be held at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon from June 27-July 2.
Moore, who was named to the PING All-Region West Team last week, finished in a tie for second at a sectional qualifier at Heron Lakes Golf Club in Portland on Sunday. He shot a 3-under 141 over the 36 holes of qualifying to tie Gaston De La Torre and finish five strokes behind Andrew Vijarro. All three players advance to the championship.
The 86th Annual U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship will include 156 players and be played at the Bandon Trails and Old Macdonald courses at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. The first two rounds are stroke play and the field will then be cut to the low 64 scores who will advance to match play.
"Alex continues to impress," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "It's unfortunate his season did not continue to the NCAA Championships in Oklahoma as he is clearly playing as well as anyone in the country, but now he will again have his opportunity to showcase his game on the national stage."
Moore had one of the best seasons in Oregon State history, finishing with the second-lowest single-season scoring average in school history (70.74) and firing the best round in school history (9-under 63). He was named to the All-Pac-10 First Team and had five top 10 finishes.
DIEGO WATCH: Former Oregon State star Diego Velasquez finished 16th at the Melwood Prince George's Country Open in College Park, Md., this past weekend. Velasquez, who qualified for the Nationwide Tour event during Monday's qualifying, finished with a 10-under 69-68-70-67--274 and gets an exemption into this week's Rex Hospital Open in Raleigh, N.C.
