CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State right-hander Sam Gaviglio was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Corvallis Regional after the Beavers defeated Georgia, 6-4, Sunday night to go 3-0 and advance to a super regional.
Gaviglio threw a five-hit gem against Creighton on Saturday, striking out an Oregon State postseason record 11 batters in the Beavers' 5-1 win over the Blue Jays. He was one of seven Beavers named to the all-tournament team, including catcher Andrew Susac, first baseman Parker Berberet, third baseman Carter Bell and outfielders Brian Stamps, Garrett Nash and Ryan Barnes.
Levi Hyams of Georgia was named the all-tournament second baseman, while his teammate Kyle Farmer claimed the shortstop position. UALR's Jason Houston earned designated hitter honors while Creighton's Jonas Dufek joined Gaviglio as one of the two pitchers named to the team.
The seven players selected to the all-tournament team ties the 2005 club for the most at a regional. Gaviglio joins Mitch Canham (2005), Chris Kunda (2006) and Joe Paterson (2007) as Beavers named Most Outstanding Player at an NCAA Regional.
