Whitney French Moves On At U.S. Women's Public Links Championship

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State women's golfer Whitney French advanced through the stroke-play qualifying at the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore., on Tuesday.
French shot a 15-over 157 during the two days of stroke play and advances to the 64-person match-play field that begins Wednesday. The senior-to-be is the 50th seed and will face No. 15 seed Joanne Lee beginning at 11 a.m. in the opening round after carding a 9-over 80 on Monday and a 6-over 77 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 48th.

The 34th Annual U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship included 155 players and is being played at the par-71, 6,098-yard Old Macdonald and par-71, 6,095-yard Bandon Trails courses at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. The match-play portion begins on Wednesday with the championship being decided on Saturday in a 36-hole final.
French shot a 1-over 72 to win a sectional qualifier at Langdon Farms Golf Club on May 24 to qualify for the 2011 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship. She finished her junior season with a 76.10 scoring average, the fifth best in school history, and shared medalist honors at the Rose City Collegiate. She has improved each season after posting a 77.87 average as a freshman and 77.64 as a sophomore.
