Alex Moore Advances At U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State senior-to-be Alex Moore advanced through the stroke-play qualifying at the 2011 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship on Tuesday and will play Scott Kammann at 9:30 a.m. in the first round of the 64-person match-play field on Wednesday.
Moore shot a 2-over 73 at the par-71, 7,016-yard Old Macdonald Course at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore., on Tuesday after shooting a 6-over 76 at the par-70, 6,832-yard Bandon Trails layout on Monday. He enters the match-play as the No. 36 seed by finishing tied for 34th after the stroke play portion with an 8-over 149.
Former Oregon State men's golfer Alex Williams also advanced to Wednesday's match-play after firing a 2-under 69 on Tuesday. Williams, who played at Oregon State from 2006-09 and is now the assistant men's golf coach at Army, is the 31st seed and will face Brodie Hullinger at 10:50 a.m. in the first round after finishing tied for 27th with a 7-over 79-69--148.

The 86th Annual U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship included a field of 156 players with the top 64 players advancing to match play after the first two rounds. The first round of match-play will be held at Bandon Trails and the final five rounds will be at Old Macdonald, including Saturday's 36-hole final.
Moore finished in a tie for second at a sectional qualifier at Heron Lakes Golf Club in Portland on June 5 to earn a spot in the prestigious U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. He shot a 3-under 141 over the 36 holes of qualifying to tie Gaston De La Torre and finish five strokes behind Andrew Vijarro. All three players advanced to the championship.
Moore had one of the best seasons in Oregon State history, finishing with the second-lowest single-season scoring average in school history (70.74) and firing the best round in school history (9-under 63). He was named an honorable mention All-America by PING and Golfweek and was selected to the PING All-Region West Team and All-Pac-10 First Team.
