Sherwood Wins Oregon Amateur Stroke Play, Advances To Match Play

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State men's golfer Nick Sherwood won medalist honors at the 102nd Oregon Amateur stroke play qualifying at Waverly Country Club in Portland, Ore., on Tuesday and advances to today's match play as the number one seed.
Sherwood shot an 8-under 68-64--132 at the par-70, 6,465-yard layout and advances to the 64-player match play field with the final 36 holes to be played on Saturday. Junior Casey King finished third with a 4-under 67-69--136 and newcomer Nick Chianello finished tied for sixth with a 1-under 68-71--139.
Former Oregon State golfer and defending Oregon Amateur champion Paul Peterson also finished in a tie for sixth place with a 1-under 69-70--139. Current Beaver golfers Jeff Petroff and Travis Milleman also advanced to the match play competition.
Oregon State golfer Whitney French earned the number two seed on the women's side with a 2-over 74-70--144 and advances to the 32-player match play field, along with current Beaver golfers Rachael Fischer, Chelsey Lind, Seshia Telles and assistant coach Kailin Downs.
