June 20, 2011
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Junior Alex Moore received another honor on Monday when he was selected to the Golfweek All-American Honorable Mention Team.
Moore, who was also named to the PING All-Region West Team and the All-Pac-10 First Team, finished the season with a 70.74 scoring average, the second-lowest single-season average in school history, and shot the best round in Oregon State history with a 9-under 63 in the second round at the Oregon Duck Invitational. He had five top ten finishes, including a tie for first at the Pac-10 Championships and second at the NCAA Arizona Regional.
He is just the sixth Oregon State golfer to receive All-America recognition, joining Diego Velasquez (Golfweek First Team and PING GCAA First Team), James Allenby (PING GCAA Honorable Mention), Anthony Arvidson (NGCA Honorable Mention), Scott Masingill (NGCA Third Team and Honorable Mention) and Bob Allard (NGCA Honorable Mention).
Moore is continuing his success this summer with second place finishes at a Public Links sectional qualifier at Heron Lakes Golf Club in Portland, Ore., on June 5 and at the Oregon Open at Awbrey Glen Golf Club in Bend, Ore., on June 14-16. With his second place finish at the sectional qualifier, he earned a spot in the 2011 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship to be held at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore., from June 27-July 2.
