Matt Boyd Added To 2011 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Roster

June 16, 2011
CARY, N.C. - Oregon State left-handed reliever Matt Boyd has been invited to join the 2011 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team tour, which begins on June 21 in conjunction with franchises in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.
Boyd has been named an alternate for players in Omaha competing for a national championship. USA Baseball will continue to make roster decisions through the end of the College World Series.
Boyd went 0-0 with a 1.57 earned run average in 30 games for the Beavers in 2011. He struck out 35 in 46 innings and limited opponents to a .253 batting average while collecting four saves.
A native of Mercer Island, Wash., he inherited 35 runners in 2011, allowing just 11 to score (31 percent). In two seasons at Oregon State, he has inherited 57, allowing 17 to score (30 percent).
Boyd will become the fifth Beaver to play for the Collegiate National Team, joining Kevin Gunderson (2005), Jonah Nickerson (2005), Darwin Barney (2006) and Kevin Rhoderick (2008). Former Beaver Brian Barden appeared for Team USA in 2008 with the Olympic Team and in 2010 with the Pan Am Qualifying Team.
Overall, Boyd is the seventh current or former Beaver to play at the International level, with Carter Bell (Team Canada) being the last to do so in 2010.
Team USA will open its summer slate June 23 against the Keene Swamp Bats in Keene, N.H. The club will play other New England Collegiate Baseball League clubs, including a June 27 game at Fenway Park in Boston against the NECBL All-Stars.
After touring the NECBL, Team USA will play a two-game Prospect Classic in Durham and Cary against the program's 18U National Team, July 1 and 2, before taking on Japan for five games that will conclude July 8 at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb.
