Last Game
Brian Stamps tallied two hits and three runs and Ben Wetzler scattered one run over seven innings as the third-ranked Oregon State baseball team defeated No. 21 California, 4-2, Sunday afternoon at Goss Stadium. Wetzler allowed a solo home run to Tony Renda to open the game, but settled down to allow just four hits on the day. He struck out seven and did not walk a batter and did not allow California to dent the scoreboard again in seven full innings to improve to 6-2 this season.
Brian Stamps’ Big Game
Brian Stamps had a big game in Sunday’s series finale against California, collecting two hits and two stolen bases. He extended his hit streak to six games with the effort, and is 7-for-15 (.467) with two doubles during the streak.
Final Non-Conference Game
Tuesday’s game marks the final non-conference game of the regular season for the Beavers, who are 20-7 in such games this season. OSU is hitting .265 in non-conference games and has a 2.45 earned run average 242 2/3 innings.
Against Portland
Oregon State has won 11 consecutive games over the Pilots, which is the team’s second-longest over Portland, shy of the 21 straight from 1959-69. The Beavers have won five straight over Portland in Corvallis.
Attendance At This Point
The Beavers are averaging 2,111 fans through 23 home dates in 2011, which would place as the second-best single-season total since Goss Stadium was renovated in 1999. The 2009 club averaged 2,218 fans per 22 dates.
Killer B’s
National writer Eric Sorenson has nicknamed Tony Bryant and Matt Boyd the “Killer B’s” and they certainly deserve it. They’ve combined for 74 innings this season, have allowed 60 hits and just 10 earned runs for an ERA 1.21. Between the two, they have saved 13 games.
Notes Of Importance
• Oregon State is 3-2 in games played on Tuesday in 2011.
• The Beavers’ starters have thrown 21 quality starts this season, matching the tally from last season. OSU is 19-2 when that happens this season.
• Oregon State is 9-6 in night games this season and 6-2 at home.
• Carter Bell is also enjoying a six-game hit streak and is 7-for-20 (.350) during it.
