No. 17 Men's Rowing Set to Race at Windermere Cup in Seattle

May 6, 2011
CORVALLIS -
The No. 17 Oregon State men’s rowing team is back on the water Saturday at the 25th annual Windermere Cup/Opening Day Regatta hosted by the University of Washington. The Beavers Varsity 4+, Junior Varsity 8, Novice 8 and Second Novice 8 crews will represent the Orange and Black this weekend on Montlake Cut.
“We have had a good chunk of time off,” head coach Steve Todd said. “So we have had a lot of time to work on things. We’ve been recovering and getting a lot of hard training done. This weekend the guys should be prepared and improved since their last race.”
The crews will be racing on a 2,000-meter course that begins on Lake Washington and will finish at the west end of the Montlake Cut.
The Varsity 4+ is scheduled as the Beavers’ first boat on the water at 10:37 a.m., when it takes on crews from Washington, Seattle Pacific and Sacramento State. OSU’s two freshman boats will follow at 11:10 against their UW counterparts. The Beavers’ JV8 tackles the course at 11:25 against crews from Washington, Stanford and Victoria as they compete for the Erickson Cascade Cup.
“Opening Day is a really big race in Seattle and is very different from any other race that we have been in. There are fans that on a nice, sunny day, can reach upwards to 40,000. Hopefully, we get some good weather and get a lot of people out there to watch.”
Regional sports network ROOT SPORTS, Tri-Film Productions, Inc. and Windermere Real Estate will produce and televise a one-hour special featuring the Windermere Cup. The telecast will debut Sunday, May 8 at 8:30 p.m. with additional airings throughout the week. The event will also feature a live stream through the subscription-based Dawg Channel All-Access on GoHuskies.com.
