May 6, 2011
LUBBOCK, Texas - Sam Gaviglio is one of 25 players from across the nation who have been named the watch list for the Pitcher of the Year Award as announced by the College Baseball Hall of Fame.
The watch list was announced on Friday, and Gaviglio is one of two pitchers from the Pacific-10 Conference on it. He has an 8-1 record and 2.00 earned run average in 81 innings this season to go along with just 19 walks and 76 strikeouts.
Gaviglio won five of his first six starts this season and has picked up victories in three of his last four leading up to tonight.
He's also a two-time Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week and was named the Golden Spikes Spotlight Player of the Week after throwing a one-hitter at Long Beach State on March 18.
The award is considered college baseball's version of the Cy Young Award and will be presented on July 3 in Lubbock, Texas as part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame's Night of Champions.
Oregon State focuses next on No. 21 California, which visits Goss Stadium in a three-game series that starts Friday night at 5:35 p.m.
