Last Game
Ryan Dunn went 2-for-4 and the second-ranked Oregon State baseball team rallied but couldn’t overcome USC in a 4-3 loss in the series finale Sunday at Goss Stadium. Ben Mount, the USC closer, forced Andrew Susac to ground out to short, ending the Beavers’ rally and the game. The series loss was the first of the Pacific-10 Conference season for the Beavers. Josh Osich went 5 2/3 innings, allowing six hits and three runs – two earned.
Final Weekend
The Beavers are in first place by a game in the Pac-10 over both Arizona State and UCLA. The Beavers’ magic number for at least a share of the crown is three while their magic number for an outright title is three.
Series Victories
The Beavers have won seven of their eight Pac-10 series, the only league team to have done so. OSU, in fact, is one of only four power conference programs to have lost just one series this season, joining Virginia (ACC), Texas (Big 12) and South Carolina (SEC).
Some Five-Game Streaks
Oregon State has three players who carry hit streaks into Friday night’s contest. Jared Norris and Carter Bell are both at five games, while Ryan Dunn takes a season-long seven-gamer into the series opener.
Pac-10 Victories
Oregon State has 17 victories in league play thus far, which is the second-most in a single-season since the Pac-10 unified in 1999. OSU won a program-record 19 league games in 2005 en route to the Pac-10 title.
Still In The Top-10
Despite dropping a few spots after the series loss to USC, the Beavers remain in the top 10 in the Baseball America Top 25 (sixth). OSU has been ranked in Baseball America’s top 10 for seven straight weeks and in the top 25 for 10 consecutive.
Notes Of Importance
• The Beavers are 27-2 when out-hitting an opponent this season, including 9-2 on the road.
• The Beavers have equaled their last season output for runs with 313. Conversely, the Beavers’ staff has allowed 86 less runs (275-189) or an average of 1.65 less per game.
• The Beavers are looking for 40 wins for the fourth time in school history and the first time since 2007 when they won 49.
