Six Rowers Named National Scholar-Athletes

Six Oregon State rowers were named 2011 National Scholar-Athletes by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Assoication (CRCA), it was announced by the organization Tuesday.
Julia Dissen (Hillsboro, Ore./Glencoe HS), Lauren Morgenthaler (Bellevue, Idaho/Wood River HS), Alexa Ortiz (Vancouver, Wash./Skyview HS), Hilary Polis (Redmond, Wash./Redmond HS), Melissa Sloan (St. Louis, Mo./Nerinx Hall HS) and Leslie Urban (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township HS) received the honors
This is the second straight year Morgenthaler, who carries a grade-point average of 3.97 in Sociology, has earned the award.
It is the first such award for the rest of the group including: Dissen, a senior with a 3.51 GPA in Biology; Ortiz, a sophomore with a 3.93 in Zoology; Polis, a sophomore with a 3.91 in Environmental Economics, Policy and Management; Sloan, a junior with a 3.64 in Environmental Science; and Urban, a junior with a 3.94 in Geography.
REQUIREMENTS
· The student-athlete has met all eligibility rules as defined by her institution.
· The student-athlete was in her 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of eligibility.
· The student-athlete rowed in her institution’s NCAA or IRA eligible boat(s) for a minimum of 75% of the current spring races or racing in a regional conference event.
· The Head Coach of the student-athlete’s institution was a member in good standing for the CRCA as of May 1, 2011.
CRITERIA
· The student-athlete has had a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher for her career (through the fall semester/quarter for the current competition year).
