CORVALLIS, Ore. - Senior-to-be Whitney French and former Oregon State women's golfer Lauren Archer both qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship to be held at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon from June 27 to July 2.
French shot a 1-over 72 to win a sectional qualifier and Archer earned the final berth with a 7-over 78 Tuesday at Langdon Farms Golf Club.
"We are very excited to have two players in a national championship event, especially one held here in Oregon," Oregon State head coach Risë Alexander said. "This is the kind of experience that propels them and their games to more and more success."
The 34th Annual U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship will include 156 players and be played at the par-71, 6,095-yard Bandon Trails and par-71, 6,075-yard Old Macdonald courses at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort. The first two rounds are stroke play and the field will then be cut to the low 64 scores who will advance to match play.
French just finished her junior season with a 76.10 scoring average, the fifth best in school history, and shared medalist honors at the Rose City Collegiate. She has improved each season after posting a 77.87 average as a freshman and 77.64 as a sophomore.
Archer competed for the Beavers from 2007-10 and has the fourth lowest scoring average in Oregon State history when she posted a 76.03 average in 2008-09. She played 104 career rounds for the Beavers and had three top ten finishes.
