Baseball Signees Fry, Wilkerson To Play In All-Star Game In June

May 23, 2011
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State fans who want to get a preview of the future of the Oregon State baseball team will have an opportunity to do so June 18 and 19 when signees Jace Fry and Riley Wilkerson will play in the Reser's Oregon All-Star Series at Goss Stadium.
The two were named to the North squad on Monday, and will help compose the club's pitching staff. Fry is a left-handed pitcher from Southridge High School - the same as former Beaver Darwin Barney - while Wilkerson is a right-hander from West Linn High School. Current Beaver Ryan Barnes hails from West Linn as does former Beaver Cole Gillespie.
Both Fry and Wilkerson signed national letters of intent with the program in November.
According to maxpreps.com, Fry has a 10-0 record for Southridge this season, posting a 1.42 earned run average in 59 innings. Opponents are batting .152 against him and he has posted 92 strikeouts to just 18 walks. He is also batting .488 offensively, tallying 14 doubles, four home runs and 38 RBI in 24 games. Southridge is 22-3 this season.
Wilkerson has guided West Linn to a 19-7 record, including three consecutive victories over Clackamas last weekend. No stats are available for the right-hander on Max Preps, but he most recently threw a complete game over Clackamas in his last start, allowing just five hits to go along with five strikeouts.
The All-Star series showcases the top 5A and 6A seniors from the state of Oregon and will be played at Goss Stadium for the first time after moving from The Dalles. Former major leaguers such as Dale Murphy, Mickey Lolich and Scott Brosius have played in the series, once known as the State-Metro All-Star Series.
Oregon State has had a rich tradition with the event as former Beavers and current and past major leaguers Barney, Gillespie, Lute Barnes, Bob Beall, Jamie Burke, Mike Ekstrom and Jim Wilson appeared in the series, as did Kevin Gunderson. Current Beavers Ben Wetzler and Tom Zarosinski played for the 6A team last year.

Sixth-ranked Oregon State visits Oregon in Eugene for a three-game series this weekend to close out the 2011 regular season campaign. Friday night's first pitch at PK Park is set for a 7 p.m. PT start.
