Everyday Champion -- Jennifer Macias
May 23, 2011
Corvallis, Ore. -
You can see it in Jennifer Macias' (muh-see-us) eyes how proud she is to be a college graduate, which she is just a few weeks from being with a degree in early childhood development with a minor in Spanish. You have to think that pales in comparison to the pride that her family will feel when she receives her diploma at Reser Stadium during commencement.
"It's going to mean a lot for my parents," Macias said. "They are going to try to get all the family members to come, because not only was I the first to graduate high school, I graduated college, which is something bigger for them because they never got to do that."
Macias came to Oregon, Hermiston specifically, at the will of her parents who wanted to move away from the big city life of San Jose, Calif. In many ways Macias is repaying her parents for what they sacrificed to bring their family to Oregon for a better life for the children.
