Josh Osich Named Pac-10 Pitcher Of The Week, Earns National Player Of Week Honors

May 2, 2011
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State left-hander Josh Osich made history with the team's fourth no-hitter on Saturday, and on Monday, made some history of his own with his first career Pacific-10 Conference Pitcher of the Week honor.
The league bestowed it upon Osich just two days after he threw the team's first complete-game no-hitter since 1947. He struck out a career-best 13 and was just one batter over the minimum in improving to 6-1 this season. He has an earned run average of 2.88 in 11 appearances - all starts - this season.
He walked just one, in the fourth inning, and just three of his 27 outs left the infield.
The complete-game effort was the first of his career and the 121 pitches were a career high.
Osich's no-hitter was the first by a Pac-10 pitcher against a league opponent since Jason Middlebrook no-hit UCLA in 1994. It is the Beavers' first since Mike Stutes, Jorge Reyes, Mark Grbavac and Josh Keller combined to no-hit Hawaii-Hilo in 2007, which also happened the be the last by a Pac-10 program.
Earlier on Monday, Osich was also named one of Louisville Slugger's National Players of the Week. It is OSU's second honor for that distinction, following Sam Gaviglio in March.
Osich and the Beavers took 2-of-3 from UCLA over the weekend and improved to 32-9 overall and 12-3 in Pacific-10 Conference play. OSU holds a half-game lead in the race for the Pac-10 title.
Osich's Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week honor is the team's third of the season after Sam Gaviglio took the first two earlier in the season. Over the last two seasons, an OSU pitcher has been recognized seven times, giving the team 65 all-time and 19 since the league unified in 1999.
The Beavers host Oregon Tuesday night in a game slated to start at 5;35 p.m. PT at Goss Stadium.
