CORVALLIS -
Oregon State freshman rower Tina Vernazza has been invited to the USRowing Under-23 Lightweight Women’s Under-23 Sculling at the GMS Rowing Center in Milford, Conn. in June.
“It is a huge honor, especially for a freshman,” Oregon State head coach Emily Ford said. “Tina is an incredibly hard worker and I’m excited she’ll have a shot against the best lightweights in the nation.”
The camp selects crews to participate in the 2011 Under-23 World Championships Trials in the lightweight women’s double sculls, lightweigh women’s quadruple sculls and lightweight women’s single sculls divisions. The World Championships are scheduled for July 21-24 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
“I am really excited for the chance to compete over the summer,” Vernazza said. “It is going to be fun racing in a sculling boat too since we have been sweep rowing all year. I’m just excited to work hard and go fast.”
Vernazza, a freshman from Redwood City, Calif., was been a key member of OSU’s Novice 8 during the 2011 season helping the Beavers’ N8 to a second place finish at the Pac-10 Championships Sunday.
