Indianapolis, Ind. – The 2009-10 Oregon State women’s indoor track team was honored with an APR Recognition Award based on high academic marks, announced Tuesday by NCAA President Mark Emmert.
These awards are given to teams scoring in the top 10 percent in each sport, based on the past four years of Academic Progress Rates, ranging from 977 to a perfect 1,000. Oregon State women’s cross country and women’s outdoor track were recognized for two seasons (2005-07), while women’s golf also earned recognition during the 2008-09 academic year.
"I'm proud of our women, who not only were able to set records on the track, but also were able to be successful in the classroom last season,” head coach Kelly Sullivan said. “This is a great honor to be recognized in the top 10 percent in our sport academically and just another step forward for our program.”
Oregon State’s squad is one of the 909 teams publicly recognized this year for high achievement, representing 14 percent of the 6,385 eligible Division I teams. The list includes 525 women’s teams and 384 men’s or mixed squads.
Through its innovative APR, which provides an annual scorecard of academic achievement, the NCAA tracks the classroom performance of student-athletes on every Division I sports team. Full APR scores for all teams will be released May 24.
