With his father who had 13 years NFL experience as a lifelong mentor, sophomore Blake Harrah comes to Oregon State with the drive to make his own football career. Originally from West Virginia but coming from Temecula, Calif., Harrah has already made a name for himself for the Beavers.
This three-sport athlete is excited to put all of his energy into football. With a history in track and soccer, both sports have helped him develop into the player that he has become. Coach (Mike) Riley and the family atmosphere were what brought Harrah here, however he has begun to develop other reasons to love Beaver Nation.
Q: Your father played professional football, how has that affected your own football experience?
A: "It was really great being able to have had a father who played in the NFL. I am who I am today because he taught me the ins and outs of the sport. Who better to have someone coach you for your entire life than your father who played professionally."
Q: How do you feel about your time at Oregon State so far?
A: "It has been fantastic. Coach Joe (Seumalo) has molded me into the player that I want to be. It's going to take some time, but things are coming along. The whole team is coming together really well and it's been nice having everyone feel like family."
Q: What is your biggest strength as a player?
A: "My biggest strength would have to be my attitude. I'm a firm believer in never giving up. I have a strong motor and I can promise that I will never quit."
Q: What do you expect for yourself for next season?
A: "For me to go out there and work as hard as I can -- be the hardest working person on the field."
Q: What is your biggest accomplishment to date?
A: "Getting to Oregon State, this opportunity really means a lot to me."
Q: Do you have a favorite sport other than football?
A: "Football is obviously my favorite, but I would have to go with soccer as my second pick because I also used to play in high school."
Q: Do you have a special way that you like to prepare yourself?
A: "Mainly studying the playbooks before the game. Actually, I listen to the same two songs also, Job for a cowboy ...Two Men A Machine & Lamb of God. They're both really hard-core metal songs but they put me in the right mindset to play."
Q: Is there a specific player that you model your game after?
A: "Former USC player Brian Cushing. I have always liked watching him play, even now that he's at the Texans. I would love to have a motor like him."
Q: Do you have a personal motto that you hold true to you?
A: "There is a quote that my dad has always told me, "It isn't the size of the dog in the fight, but it's the size of the fight in the dog."
