Moore Falls In Sudden-Death Playoff At Pac-10 Championships

May 1, 2011
STANFORD, Calif. - It was historic, exciting and downright nerve-wracking for everyone in attendance at the Stanford Golf Course on Sunday as it took seven holes in sudden-death before Martin Trainer of USC defeated Oregon State junior Alex Moore to win the individual title in what is believed to be the longest playoff in the 52-year history of the Pac-10 Championships.
Both players finished the three-day, 72-hole tournament with a 5-under 275 to force a sudden-death playoff that was played on the par-four 18th hole. After each player made par the first six times the hole was played, Trainer made a short putt for par to win after Moore made bogey.
As a team, the Beavers shot a 15-over 365 in Sunday's final round at the par-70, 6,742-yard Stanford Golf Course and finished the tournament in eighth place with a 53-over 367-356-365-365--1453.
Moore paced the Beavers with an even-par 70 in the final round, while sophomore Nick Sherwood had a 1-over 71 on Sunday and finished tied for 25th with an 8-over 75-69-73-71--288 and freshman David Fink was tied for 35th with a 12-over 73-77-69-73--292.
Junior Jonnie Motomochi finished tied for 51st with a 21-over 301, junior Casey King was tied for 53rd with a 23-over 303 and sophomore Jeff Petroff wrapped up the tournament with a 25-over 305 for a tie for 56th.
Oregon State now waits for the announcement of the NCAA Men's Golf Regional Championships looking to make a fifth consecutive appearance in postseason play.
