Track Runs Into the Night at John Knight Twilight
April 7, 2011
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women's track team will compete this Friday at the John Knight Twilight Classic held at McArthur Field on the campus of Western Oregon University.
The Beavers are coming off of another successful day of competition two weeks ago at the Stanford Invitational. Hayley Oveson and Laura Carlyle both broke the school record in the 5,000-meters at the event.
Carlyle set the record with a time of 16:19.00 just minutes after Oveson broke the record with a time of 16:34.01. The previous record was set last season by Abby Chesimet. Carlyle's time ranks 15th nationally in the event.
Oregon State is slated to send 23 runners to compete in a variety of running events and one field event. Kristin Oenning will look to improve on her outdoor high jump personal best height of 5-03.75 that she set last time out at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival.
Four runners will be competing in the 800 including Carlyle while 11 others will run the 1,500. Taylor Nowlin will run in her first-career steeplechase event while Joslynn Corredor, Erin Jones, Regina and Sabrina Lopez and Whitney Pittman will run the 5,000.
