April 7, 2011
CORVALLIS -
The No. 16 Oregon State men's rowing team has its hands full this Saturday when the Beavers host No. 1 Washington for the schools' annual dual race as part of the Covered Bridge Regatta at Dexter Lake in Lowell, Ore.
The Beavers will look to make adjustments after racing last weekend at the San Diego Crew Classic.
"We just need to have our best race and get the guys internally focused," head coach Steve Todd said. "We need to be focused on what we can do to put together their best 2,000 meters."
OSU and UW will face off beginning with the Freshman 8+ race at 12:30 p.m. The Junior Varsity 8+ follows at 12:40 p.m. and the Varsity 8+ is set for a 12:50 p.m. start.
In other racing the Beavers will have two Novice 4+ crews involved in the Covered Bridge Regatta portion of the schedule racing in heats beginning at 10 a.m. The OSU Varsity 4+ will race at 1 p.m. and the Second Varsity 8+ is slated to race at 3:30 p.m.
The teams will be racing on Dexter Lake's 2,000-meter course that begins at the covered bridge on the east side of the lake running down two full buoyed lines northwest towards the OAR boathouse for the finish line.
"Our crews will be looking to be aggressive off the start and get in themselves into a good racing rhythm early on," Todd said. "We've been working on completing our own race and executing each part of our race plan to the best of our abilities. They know they need to row a composed and well-executed race this week."
