Softball Plays Host to No. 8/5 Arizona

THE GAMES - Oregon State (16-11 overall, 0-3 Pacific-10 Conference) returns home for its home conference series against No. 8/5 (National Fastpitch Coaches Association/USA Softball) Arizona (32-6, 3-0) this Friday through Sunday at the OSU Softball Complex. The three-game set will start with Friday's game starting at 3 p.m. Saturday's game is slated for a 12 p.m. first pitch wile Sunday's game will start at 11 a.m.

GAMES 28-30: ARIZONA WILDCATS - The Wildcats come into the weekend ranked in the top 10 in both the NFCA and UCA Softball top 25 rankings. They post an overall record of 32-6 record this season and are 3-0 in conference play after sweeping Stanford to open conference play last weekend. Brittany Lastrapes leads the team in batting average with a mark of .487 (58-for-119). She also leads the team in slugging percentage (.815). Three different hitters have posted home run totals of 10 or more. The Wildcats are hitting .345 as a team.
Kenzie Fowler leads the Wildcats' pitching staff with a 1.57 earned run average in 138 innings pitched. She was selected as the USA Softball and Pac-10 Player of the Week last week after recording all three wins last weekend against the Cardinal while not allowing a single run in 15.1 innings pitched. She allowed just four hits on the weekend while pitching 15.1 of the total 18 innings on the weekend.
ALL-TIME AGAINST ARIZONA - The Beavers are 10-81 all-time against the Wildcats. The Beavers were swept in the three-game set last season and have not beaten Arizona since May 1, 2005 when they beat then-No. 2 Wildcats by a score of 4-0. Brianne McGowan pitched the complete-game five-hit shutout for the Beavers while Caitlin Lowe, older sister of Beavers outfielder McKenna Lowe, went 2-for-3 playing for Arizona.
INDIVIDUALS AGAINST ARIZONA - Oregon State first baseman Erin Guzy is 4-for-13 all-time against Arizona with a run scored. Audrey Roderfeld is 6-for-23 against the Wildcats with two runs scored a double and two home runs while racking up five RBIs.
HOME COOKING - The Beavers return home for only the second time this season. They are 6-0 at home this season after sweeping doubleheaders against Utah State, Weber State and Portland State. The six home wins were in the middle of a season-high nine-game winning streak for the Beavers. The Beavers have outscored their opponents 36-4 at home this season while holding their opponents to a .191 batting average.
LAST WEEKEND - The Beavers opened Pac-10 conference play last weekend in Los Angeles, Calif. against the Bruins of UCLA. Oregon State dropped each game of the three-game set after scoring first in two of the games.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR THE BEAVERS - The Beavers are back out on the road next weekend when they travel to the Bay Area to take on the Stanford Cardinal in a three-game set starting April 15.
