Men's Golf Finishes Ninth At Wyoming Cowboy Classic

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - The Oregon State men's golf team finished in ninth place at the 9th Annual Wyoming Cowboy Classic on Tuesday.
The Beavers shot a 6-over 286 in the final round and finished the tournament with a 21-over 294-281-286--861 at the par-70, 7,133-yard Talking Stick Golf Club to finish ninth in the 20-team event.
"I don't believe our play this week is a reflection of who this team is," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "It's not because they don't care or are not working hard enough; it's more of a matter of execution and believing they can do it."
Sophomore Nick Sherwood shot a 1-over 71 on Tuesday and finished the tournament in a tie for 15th place with a 1-over 74-66-71--211, while junior Alex Moore had the Beavers best round of the day with a 2-under 68 to finish in a tie for 20th with a 2-over 70-74-68--212.
Other Oregon State finishes include a tie for 57th by freshman David Fink, who had a 10-over 79-68-73--220, junior Jonnie Mototmochi had an 11-over 73-74-74--221 for a tie for 65th and freshman Travis Milleman with a 15-over 77-73-75--225 for a tie for 88th place.
Baylor won the team title with a 4-under 282-273-281--836 to finish two strokes ahead of Arizona at 1-under 839 and five strokes ahead of Colorado State with a 1-over 841. Tarquin Macmanus of Arizona won the individual title with an 8-under 66-70-66--202 to finish a stroke ahead of Joakim Mikkelsen of Baylor and Zahkai Brown of Colorado State.
The Beavers return to action April 29 to May 1 at the Pac-10 Championships at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif.
"We have almost a full month now to help each of these guys get better," Reehoorn said. "Primarily, I need to help them believe in themselves and step on that first tee at the Pac-10 Championships believing they can compete for a conference championship."
