April 5, 2011
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State men's soccer team will host the Portland Timbers from Major League Soccer today at 6 p.m. at Paul Lorenz Field in a training match that is open to the public.
The match against the Timbers highlights a spring schedule that includes games against the University of Portland, Northwest Nazarene, Oregon Institute of Technology, Seattle University and the annual Alumni Game. All home spring matches are free admission.
"To be certain, we are looking forward to the 2011 spring campaign," Simmons said. "The schedule will provide our young group with tremendous playing opportunities after a challenging winter term. Additionally, I want to thank the Portland Timbers for scheduling us in their inaugural season. No doubt this will be one of the highlights for the players as they will challenge every facet of our development."
The Portland Timbers have been a professional franchise since 1975 and were awarded an expansion franchise by the MLS on March 20, 2009 with their opening season beginning this year. The Timbers will have played four regular season MLS matches before the match against the Beavers on April 9.
The Alumni Game is scheduled for Saturday, April 30 at 1 p.m. at Paul Lorenz Field and is an opportunity for former players and coaches to reconnect and have an opportunity to meet members of the current program.
