CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women's soccer team announced its six-game spring exhibition schedule on Monday as the Beavers will open the exhibition schedule with a doubleheader against Humboldt State and Southern Oregon on Saturday, April 9.
Oregon State will host five home games featuring an April 30 meeting with the Seattle Sounders of the USL W-League starting at 7 p.m. The Beavers will also play a road game at the University of Portland.
The Beavers will open up their spring schedule with a doubleheader on April 9 with a game against Humboldt State at 11 a.m. and a game against Southern Oregon at 3 p.m.
They will be at home the following weekend on April 17 when they will host another doubleheader. They will face off with Pac-10 rival Washington State at 10 a.m. followed by instate foe Portland State at 3 p.m. The Beavers will then travel to Portland to take on instate powerhouse the University of Portland April 23 at 1 p.m.
Admission is free to the spring matches as fans are encouraged to bring canned food items to support Community Outreach.
"Spring is about all our players getting plenty of game time," Oregon State women's soccer head coach Linus Rhode said. "It allows the staff to get an initial framework of what to expect in August. I am excited to see what our women can do, with quite a difficult spring schedule. Our players have worked hard all winter and are ready to play some games"
Oregon State is coming off of another NCAA Tournament appearance. They defeated No. 24 Memphis in the first round before falling to No. 6 Oklahoma State in Stillwater, Okla.
The Beavers finished second in conference play going 7-2, their best conference record in program history and finished the season with an overall record of 16-4-1. They lose only one starter from last year in lone senior Courtney Wetzel who led the team in assists with 12.
Chelsea Buckland, Oregon State's leading goal scorer from a year ago, will miss the spring exhibition season after being called in for her second Canadian National Team camp.
"We are happy she (Buckland) has gotten a recall to the world cup squad, it great for her and our program," Rhode said. "Call ups to national teams may happen more, with various players at different times of the year, as our program continues to build. However, we will always approach every game the same way and our players know this."
