Meet Will Storey
April 28, 2011
Corvallis, Ore. -
By Ashley Theeler For osubeavers.com Entering practice as a wide receiver, freshman Will Storey quickly found himself in a new position, safety. Although a position change like that may be difficult for some players (he played safety/linebacker in high school), Storey finds himself embracing the new opportunity he’s been given early in his career at OSU. With such a deep family history at Oregon State, the freshman from Lake Oswego is feeling right at home. Oregon State has always been a second home for Storey. It is where his grandfather (Will) played football, his uncle (Ken) played basketball while his father (Kip) played football also, along with multiple other family members attending OSU over the years. Following in his families’ footsteps, he has high hopes of filling their shoes and making an impact too. With a 6A 2008 championship at Lake Oswego HS, first team all-league defensive OLB for two consecutive years and finishing off his prep career with two athlete of the week awards under his belt, Storey joins Beaver Nation with plenty of versatility and pride. Q: How do you feel about being moved to safety? A: “I’m pretty into it, there’s a lot to learn, but it’s going pretty well. It’s definitely a change from receiver, but I like it.” Q: What is your biggest strength as a player? A: “I’m smart and I can learn really quickly. I pick up new things really well. I think my head picks up for what I lack physically since I’m young right now. I know that growing physically will come with time.” Q: You have a long family history at Oregon State, how do you feel about carrying that on? A: “It’s really important to me, I’ve always wanted to come here because of my father and grandfather --that was one of the biggest factors in my decision. I want to carry that on for as long as I can. I’ve always been a fan and gone to the games. I made sure to follow the players and ever since I was young I wanted to come here. It happened to work out for me.” Q: What is your biggest athletic thrill to date? A: “State semi-final game my junior year, I had the game winning touchdown against a team that was ranked higher than we were. That would definitely have to be one of my most proud moments.” Q: What is your biggest hobby outside of football? A: “Music is really important to me. I listen to almost every different type of music, and even playing too.” Q: What are your top favorite songs right now? A: “Top three would be, Colors- Calvin Harris, Night By Night- Chromio and anything in my currency.” Q: Is there anything that you do to help you prepare for the game? A: “Listening to music is really big; it helps me become mentally prepared and ready for the game. I tend to be pretty tense and music helps me relax. Anything I can do to allow myself to relax is really important; silence really helps me with that too.” Q: What are your hopes after you graduate from Oregon State? A: “After college, I’d like to go into advertising. I am not exactly sure where I’ll end up yet, but anywhere in the business world is where I am headed.” Q: Favorite thing about Oregon State? A: “My first practice has definitely been the most memorable part. I didn’t know anything coming into it making it difficult not knowing what to expect. You don’t want to feel like an idiot, but once you get out there again you realize you are playing better than you think.” Q: Is there a certain motto that you choose to live by? A” Relax and play. I tend to over think things in the beginning, but I’ve realized that I need to make myself relax and just play football. When I do that, I’m all good.” You can catch Will and the rest of his teammates at this Saturday’s (April 30) Spring Game at Reser Stadium at 12:15 p.m. For autograph seekers, join the team at 10 a.m. at Fan Fair at Parker Plaza.
