Men's Golf Prepared For Pac-10 Championships

April 27, 2011
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State men's golf team will travel to Stanford, Calif., to compete in the 2011 Pac-10 Championships Friday through Sunday at the par-70, 6,742-yard Stanford Golf Course.
The three-day, 72-hole tournament will feature all 10 teams from the conference with tee times scheduled for 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Friday, when 36 holes will be played, 9 a.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. on Sunday. Teams will tee off holes one and 10 all three days.
"We've really focused on preparing the guys for just about every possible situation they will see this coming week at Stanford," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "I've tried to make it feel as if each of the guys have already played every hole three or four times before we've even stepped foot on the property so they feel like the practice round isn't about gathering information, but more just getting used to the conditions."
The Beavers lineup will consist of juniors Alex Moore, Jonnie Motomochi and Casey King, sophomores Nick Sherwood and Jeff Petroff, and freshman David Fink.
"In this championship, where the format is six-count-five, the depth of your team is tested," Reehoorn said. "Our depth at times has been an issue this season, but I believe all six guys are playing about as well as I have seen them play this year.
Right now there is one team that is far and away better than everyone - UCLA," he added. "After that I would say everyone has had their ups and downs this season, but as usual the Pac-10 is probably the strongest conference in the country with six of the 10 teams ranked in the Top 25. We've got our work cut out for us this week."
The Beavers haven't competed since April 4-5 when they finished ninth at the 20-team Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Scottsdale, Ariz. But the team played Oregon in a Ryder Cup best-ball exhibition last weekend at the Portland Golf Club.
"It has been a while since we last played in a tournament and I wanted to make sure our layoff was not too long and the guys were sharp mentally in a competitive mode," Reehoorn said about the exhibition. "I would say we got out of it exactly what I had hoped for; some really good play, intense competition and a little motivation to ensure they are ready to compete this weekend."
Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com throughout the tournament.
