Last Game
The Oregon State baseball team’s 11-game win streak came to an end Saturday afternoon in a pitcher’s duel as the third-ranked Beavers dropped a 2-0 decision to Washington State in front of a season-best 3,041 fans Saturday afternoon at Goss Stadium. Josh Osich threw 6 1/3 innings against the Cougars Saturday, scattering eight hits and two runs with eight strikeouts. The lefty was bested by Washington State starter James Wise, who held the Beavers off the scoreboard for 7 2/3 innings. He allowed just three hits, walked five and struck out four.
Winning In April
The Beavers find themselves with an 11-2 record in the month of April heading into Tuesday’s game. That clinches a winning month with three games remaining, quite the reverse from last season’s 4-10 mark. OSU has now had a winning April in 12 of Pat Casey’s 17 seasons.
Portland Matchup
The Beavers downed Portland, 11-1, in early April in the first matchup of the season. That extended OSU’s win streak in the series to 10 games, which is the best stretch since the Beavers also won 10 straight from 2002-04. The longest winning streak for OSU was 21 straight from 1959-69.
A Pros Update
Mike Stutes was called up to Philadelphia on Sunday night, giving the Beavers four players at the Major League level. When he makes his debut, he will become the 25th former Beaver to play at the Major League level.
Non-Conference Play
The game Tuesday is one three final non-conference games for the Beavers during the regular season as they still have the Pilots and Oregon scheduled to be played at Goss Stadium. OSU is 19-6 in non-conference games this season.
Notes Of Importance
• The Beavers rank 29th nationally with an average of 2,032 fans per home game this season. That jumped OSU up a few spots after being 31st last week.
• OSU needs just 19 victories to win 1,000 in true road contests in program history. That number won’t be achieved this season, but will be possible in 2012.
• OSU is one game off the program record for wins through 37 games. The 2005 club was 30-7.
• The Beavers are eight games ahead of the 2010 club’s 21-17 record and three games ahead of the 2009 club.
• The Beavers are 13-5 away from Goss.
