Meet Trevor Romaine
By Ashley Theeler, for osubeavers.com
With two state records, most career points after a touchdown, and most career points from Corona Centennial High School in California, Trevor Romaine excels as a kicker. Graduating with honors as well as being a two-sport athlete with football and soccer, Romaine also found himself developing leadership when he was a part of the Associated Student Body office and held the publicity position.
At Oregon State on a scholarship, Romaine hopes to prove to the team that he can be a true asset and to make an impact on the football team. With a passion for the sport, his hard work and dedication seem to put him in a strong place mentally so that he will be prepared to handle whatever may come his way.
Learn more about Trevor Romaine in the following Q&A:
How does it feel being a scholarship athlete and what does it mean to you?
“It means a lot. I understand that I am a student first and an athlete second. I am here to get an education, but I also must perform well and take advantage of what was given to me and better myself in life”.
What do you do on the sidelines to keep yourself prepared between kicks?
“I make sure to keep up my mental awareness, keep my leg warm by kicking the ball into a net so that I am ready at all times. We can score from anywhere on the field at all times, so it’s important to be prepared.”
How has your transition to Oregon State been?
“It’s been good. I feel like I have a handle on the routine between classes and football.”
How has the Oregon State football program helped/benefitted you?
“Coach (Bruce) Reed told me when I first came here that if I ever needed anything or had any questions that he would help me out. Plus, the strength and conditioning coaches have helped me out a lot, especially with the transition of high school lifting to college lifting.”
What do you miss most about home?
“I miss the familiarity of home and how it was sort of my security blanket. Plus, it’s always sunny in Cali.”
What are some hobbies you have outside of football?
“I really enjoy soccer and I play Call of Duty”.
Is there a certain way you prepare yourself mentally?
“I try to not let myself get too pumped up for the game; make sure to keep my nerves in control. Then after, to get myself pumped up I just listen to music. Let the bodies hit the floor.”
What do you hope to see for yourself for spring ball?
“I hope to see improvement from my high school seasons to now and to hit good balls. I’d like to have above 80 percent on my field goals, no missed PAT’s and good kickoffs.”
