Men's Golf Adds Player To 2011-12 Roster

April 21, 2011
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Nick Chianello, who played for the University of Portland the past two seasons, has received a grant in aid agreement from Oregon State and will play for the men's golf program, head coach Jon Reehoorn announced on Thursday.
"Anytime you can add an individual from your home state who possesses the ability and experience of Nick, you have to be excited," Reehoorn said. "In two years at UP, Nick competed in every event and showed a great ability to post a number of under-par rounds."
The University of Portland is eliminating its golf program and Chianello made the decision to transfer to Oregon State. "What has happened at the University of Portland is very unfortunate and I hope each of their student-athletes find great institutions to continue their careers," Reehoorn said.
Chianello, who is from Gresham, Ore., led the Pilots with a 72.78 scoring average and had three top 10 and four top 20 finishes in 2010-11, including a school-record 64 at the Palouse Cougar Collegiate in the fall. As a freshman, he had one top 10 and three top 20 finishes and had a scoring average of 75.48.
"Nick will add some experience and depth to a team next year that will be returning everyone from this year," Reehoorn said. "The season isn't over yet, but I'm excited for next fall to begin and see how the competition for our traveling squad unfolds."
