CORVALLIS -
Oregon State junior rower Lauren Morgenthaler has been invited to the USRowing Women's Under-23 National Team Camp at the High Performance Training Center in Oklahoma City, Okla. in June.
The camp will select the Open Women's 8+ and the 4x to compete at the 2011 FISA U23 World Championships scheduled for July 20-24 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The camp will also work toward the selection of the Open Women's 2-, 4- and 2x to compete at the U23 Trials June 27-29 at Mercer Lake, N.J.
"It is a great honor to be selected and to be considered among the best athletes in the country," head coach Emily Ford said. "It says a lot about the work Lauren's done and is an indicator of the progress of Oregon State rowing."
The camp will start in Oklahoma City, Okla. on June 2 and will be spent selecting the fastest combinations for athletes for Trials and Camp boats. In mid-June the camp will move to New Jersey to finalize selection and prepare for Trials and Elite Nationals.
"I'm really excited about being invited to U23 camp and a little nervous too," Morgenthaler said. "I'm pumped about getting the opportunity to train with such elite athletes."
Morgenthaler, a native of Bellevue, Idaho, was a key member of OSU's Varsity 8+ crew during the 2010 season. She earned All-Pac-10 honors as a sophomore and was named to the Pac-10 All-Academic First Team that season. In addition, she rowed at the USRowing Pre-Elite Camp earning a silver medal in the Intermediate Women's Eight last summer.
