Kavin Keyes Named Pac-10 Player Of The Week; Beavers Rise In National Rankings

April 18, 2011
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State freshman infielder/designated hitter Kavin Keyes has been named the Pacific-10 Conference Player of the Week, commissioner Larry Scott announced Monday.
Keyes helped pace the Beavers to a series sweep of then-No. 17 Stanford, their first ever at Sunken Diamond. Keyes tallied six hits over the three games with a double and six runs batted in. His six RBI were one more than the five runs scored by Stanford.
In hitting safely over the three games, he extended his hit streak to a season-best 14 games, which ties Andrew Susac for the most by a Beaver this season. He is 21-for-48 (.438) with seven RBI during the hit streak.
Keyes had the game-winning RBI in two of the three games at Stanford. In the first game, he drove in the contest's lone run with a single up the middle in the first inning. In game three, he drove in two with a single to right in the seventh. The two RBI marked his second and third of the game.
He also drove in two in Oregon State's 8-1 win on Saturday.
On the year, Keyes, a switch-hitter, is second on the team with a .361 batting average, and during Pac-10 play, he is batting .452, which leads the Pac-10.
The player of the week honor is the third of the season for the Beavers, which is the most for the club in one year since 2001. Keyes, who won his first player of the week honor, follows Ryan Dunn (April 11) and Andrew Susac (March 8).
Also, on Monday, the Beavers rose in the national polls after posting their second consecutive Pac-10 sweep, a first for the team since the 2006 season. Oregon State is ranked third in the Baseball America Top 25 rankings, and is seventh by Collegiate Baseball, eighth by ESPN/USA Today and ninth by Perfect Game.
Oregon State turns its sights to Washington State this week when the Beavers host the Cougars at Goss Stadium. Note, it is a series that runs Thursday through Saturday due to the Easter holiday occurring on Sunday.
First pitch Thursday and Friday is set for 5:35 p.m. PT. Saturday's first pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. and can be seen live on ROOT SPORTS and KEZI 9.2.
