No. 17 Beavers to Face Three Top 10 Crews This Weekend

April 14, 2011
CORVALLIS -
The No. 17 Oregon State men’s rowing team is back in action for the third straight weekend at the Stanford Invitational at Redwood Shores, Calif., April 16-17.
“These are important races for us,” head coach Steve Todd said. “We obviously always want to race well against our conference, but performing well against teams outside of the conference and from the east coast, like Wisconsin, is very important.”
Oregon State is slated to race against No. 6 Stanford on Saturday morning followed by No. 7 Wisconsin in the afternoon. The Beavers will face No. 2 California Sunday.
“We’ve got to be a lot more aggressive than what we were last week against Washington and we really need to look at the piece to improve upon the first 500 meters. We weren’t particularly good in that first 500 against UW as well as the week before in the finals in San Diego. The guys really know that the start is something that they need to execute well.”
Saturday racing is slated for the Varsity 8 at 9:10 a.m., with the Junior Varsity 8 at 9:50 and the Freshman 8 wrapping up morning racing at 10:20. The afternoon schedule has the F8 re-taking the course at 3:20 p.m., the JV8 at 3:50 and the V8 at 4:20.
