Challe Barton Signs NLI With Men's Basketball
April 13, 2011
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Challe Barton has signed a National Letter of Intent with the Oregon State men's basketball team, head coach Craig Robinson announced on Wednesday.
"We are very excited about the addition of Challe Barton to our program," Robinson said. "He's a 6-foot-3 point guard or shooting guard and has a terrific basketball IQ. He is athletic and has a very good outside shot and is a good ball handler. He has played at his high school and also on the national team so he has experience against some of the best competition in Europe. He will bolster our backcourt significantly."
Barton currently plays for Sanda Basketball Academy in Sweden where he led the team to two National Final Fours, including 2009 when he was the youngest player in the tournament at the age of 16. He also played in the FIBA U18 Championships in 2010 for the Sweden U18 team.
"His dad played and coached in Europe for many years and he comes from a great basketball pedigree," Robinson said. "He'll be competing for playing time like Daniel Gomis and I expect to get him on the court this season."
Daniel Gomis, a 6-foot-10 power forward, signed a National Letter of Intent on November 15, 2010 and gives the Beavers a pair of talented new players for the 2011-12 season. Gomis is ranked the No. 22 power forward and 95th best player in the nation by Scout.com and the 38th best power forward by ESPN.com. He played this season for prep powerhouse Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va., this season after playing for Community School in Sun Valley, Idaho the previous season.
