Last Game
Ryan Dunn doubled, homered and drove in three to lead the No. 19 Oregon State baseball team to a series sweep of No. 5 Arizona State with a 9-6 win in front of 2,475 fans Sunday afternoon at Goss Stadium. The series sweep is the Beavers first-ever over Arizona State in Corvallis and the club’s first over the Sun Devils since 1966. It also marked the first time the Sun Devils have been swept in a Pacific-10 Conference series since 1999. James Nygren got the win in relief, improving 5-1 this season.
Playing At Stanford
The Beavers, despite owning a 11-23 record all-time at Stanford, have played well at Sunken Diamond in recent years. OSU has claimed each of the last three series there, all by 2-1 weekend margins, to go 6-3. The Beavers have never swept Stanford in California.
The ‘Pen
Oregon State’s bullpen played a key role in the Beavers’ sweep over Arizona State this past weekend. Scott Schultz and James Nygren each earned wins during the weekend. OSU’s pen is 2-2 with a 3.16 earned run average in true road games this season.
Ryan Dunn, Pac-10 Player of the Week
Junior infielder Ryan Dunn enters the series at Stanford as the reigning Pac-10 Player of the Week after going 6-for-14 in four games. He was 6-for-11 with three doubles, a home run and six RBI during the three-game series with Arizona State. He batted in the No. 8 spot in all three games.
Kavin Keyes Has Been On Fire
Freshman infielder Kavin Keyes has been on a hot streak as of late and comes into Friday night’s game on an 11-game hitting streak. He is batting .416 (15-for-36) with an RBI, three walks and a double during it. Not bad for a guy who should be a high school senior in 2011.
Notes Of Importance
• The Beavers’ No. 9 ranking is their highest of the season. OSU also comes into the series with an official RPI of 18.
• Danny Hayes has doubled, homered and driven in three lifetime against Stanford. He is 5-for-11 all-time against the Cardinal.
• Oregon State’s six-game win streak is the second-longest of the season. It is the longest active streak in the Pac-10.
• The Beavers have started off 5-1 in the Pac-10 for the second time since 2009. The 2009 club also started 5-1 and finished league play with a 15-12 mark.
