Softball Heads to Bay Area for Santa Clara and No. 11 Stanford

THIS WEEK - Oregon State heads back out on the road this week for a midweek game against Santa Clara before starting a three-game Pacific-10 Conference set against the No. 11/12 Stanford Cardinal. The Beavers will take on Santa Clara at 12 p.m. on Thursday. They start their series against Stanford Friday night at 7 p.m. before facing off with the Cardinal Saturday at 1 p.m. and again on Sunday at 12 p.m.

GAME 30: SANTA CLARA BRONCOS - The Broncos starts the week with a 6-13 overall record before they play a midweek game against Pacific on Tuesday. Briana Knight leads the Broncos in batting average with a mark of .429. She also leads the team in home runs (6) and RBIs (15). The Broncos' pitching staff has an earned run average of 8.76 after giving up 111 earned runs in 114 total innings.
GAMES 31-33: STANFORD CARDINAL - The Cardinal come into this week with a 26-8 record before playing a midweek game against San Jose State on Tuesday. Stanford is 2-4 in conference play after taking two out of three against UCLA last weekend. Ashley Hansen leads the way for the Cardinal with a conference best .541 batting average. She leads the team with 59 hits and is second in home runs (5) and RBIs 32. She is second in the conference in slugging percentage with a mark of .908.
The Cardinal pitching staff is led by sophomore Teagan Gerhart who has a team-best 1.97 ERA while posting a record of 14-6 on the season. The staff as a whole posts an ERA of 2.05 allowing 67 earned runs in 228.1 innings pitched. Opponents are hitting .225 off the Cardinal this season.
ALL-TIME AGAINST STANFORD - Oregon State is 25-38 all-time against the Stanford. The Beavers defeated the Cardinal in their last meeting last season by a score of 10-8 in Corvallis. The last time the Beavers won at Stanford was a 9-2 victory over then-No. 16 Stanford in 2007.
INDIVIDUALS AGAINST STANFORD - Several individuals have had success in recent years against the Cardinal. Sophomore Lea Cavestany went 4-for-9 last season with two runs scored, six runs batted in and two home runs. Sophomore Ally Kutz went 5-for-10 last season with three runs scored, a home run and two RBIs. Senior Audrey Roderfeld is 8-for-23 for her career against the Cardinal with five runs scored, five RBIs and four home runs.
LAST WEEKEND - The Beavers took the first game of the three-game series against then-No. 5 Arizona by a score of 3-1 before dropping the final two games in a doubleheader this past Saturday. The win against the Wildcats is the first since the 2005 season. Sophomore transfer pitcher Tina Andreana pitched two complete games on the weekend throwing 306 total pitches in two games, on back-to-back days.
WELCOME TO THE PAC - Sophomore Tina Andreana has wasted no time in making an impact on the conference after transferring to Oregon State prior to the year. She posts the 10th lowest ERA in the Pac-10 this season with a mark of 2.02. She is first in the conference in fewest earned runs allowed (17), first in fewest hits allowed (49), first in fewest home runs allowed (2) and fifth in fewest runs allowed (31). She started in her first career Pac-10 game and has started four of the Beavers' six conference games this season including complete games against then-No. 5 Arizona on back-to-back days.
WHAT'S NEXT FOR THE BEAVERS - The Beavers stay close to home but are back out on the road next weekend when they travel down Interstate-5 to take on instate rival Oregon in a three-game, Thursday through Saturday, Pac-10 conference set. They play Oregon on Thursday at 6 p.m., Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 12 p.m.
