Everyday Champion - Carter Bell

April 11, 2011
You hear it all the time; "the family atmosphere; it feels like home" as the reasons student-athletes choose Oregon State over another institution. Add Beavers' third baseman/shortstop Carter Bell to that list.
"That is one of the major reasons I decided to come here," Bell said of his decision to call Corvallis home for his college days. "I visited here and felt the family atmosphere, I felt comfortable. "
Bell had plenty of other opportunities to play baseball after graduating from Vanier Secondary School in British Columbia, and could have skipped the college route altogether and signed with the San Francisco Giants out of high school as a 22nd round draftee.
"Turning down an offer from the Giants wasn't that hard as Oregon State was a great opportunity and I didn't want to miss the college experience," Bell said. "I had plenty of other college opportunities, but the key factor about coming to Oregon State was the family atmosphere, the coaching staff, and the competitiveness to win. I want to win here and there are 34 other guys on the team that wants to win, that was a huge factor in my decision.
