Men's Soccer Adds Highly-Touted Transfer To 2011 Roster

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Emery Welshman, who was named the 2010 MAAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year for Siena College, has committed to transfer to Oregon State for the 2011 season, Beavers head coach Steve Simmons announced today.
"Emery's club and collegiate record speaks for itself," Simmons said. "His experiences will allow him to hit the ground running in the Pac-12."
Welshman led the conference in scoring in 2010 with 13 goals and three assists for 29 points. He was also selected to the 2010 NSCAA/Performance Subaru NCAA Division I Men's All-North Atlantic Region First Team. Welshman finished his sophomore season ranked seventh overall in NCAA Division I Soccer with 1.81 points per game and fourth overall with .81 goals per game.
Welshman, the 2009 MAAC Rookie of the Year, started all 19 games as a freshman and had six goals and three assists for 15 points, including the game-winning goal against Boston College in overtime. He ranked in the league's top 10 in points and goals.
The Mississauga, Ontario native was selected the Most Valuable Player as a junior and senior at Loyola Catholic and was named the High School Male Student-Athlete of the Year as a senior. Prior to college, Welshman played for Canadian Academy team, Sigma FC.
