Beavers Face Tough Field at San Diego Crew Classic

The Oregon State women's rowing team will be on the water again as the Beavers travel south to participate in the San Diego Crew Classic held on Mission Bay April 2-3.
The Beavers’ Varsity 8+ will begin the weekend racing against 11 of the elite teams in the country for the Jessop-Whittier Cup. Saturday, Oregon State will compete in the ‘B’ heat at 9 a.m. against boats from Stanford, Wisconsin, Washington, Oklahoma and Purdue.
Oregon State’s Varsity 4+ boat will also race against 11 top crews as it hits the water against USC, Iowa, Tulsa, Alabama and Bates in the ‘B’ heat of the Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup at 9:20 a.m. Crews from several other Pac-10 schools will also be on hand.
In addition to the V8+ and V4+, the Beavers will also race a Second Varsity 8+ and a Third Varsity 8+ boats at Mission Bay. Oregon State’s 3V8+ will race in the ‘B’ heat at 10:40 a.m. with the 2V8+ boat following closely in the ‘C’ heat at 10:50 a.m. They will be racing against collegiate crews from fellow Pac-10 schools (Stanford, Washington State, Washington and UCLA) as well as teams from around the nation (Iowa, San Diego, Tulsa, Fordham, Alabama, San Diego State, Kansas State and SMU).
The four crews will race again on Sunday, either in the Grand or Petite Finals depending on their finish in Saturday’s heat racing.
