Seven Gymnasts Earn Pac-10 All-Conference Honors

Seven Oregon State gymnasts were recognized for the 2011 Pacific-10 Conference Women's Gymnastics All-Conference teams, announced today by Commissioner Larry Scott. Kelsi Blalock, Leslie Mak, Britney Ranzy, Makayla Stambaugh and Olivia Vivian earned first team All-Pac-10 honors and Becky Colvin and Jen Kesler were named to the second team.
The All-Conference first team consists of the top six all-around competitors, plus the top three competitors in each individual event not among the all-around honorees. The second team All-Pac-10 consists of the top two all-arounders who were not named to the first team (as all-arounders or in an event), after such the top two gymnasts from each event who were not yet named to the first team or the second team would be selected to the second team.
Mak, a junior from Toronto, Ontario, earned first team All-Pac-10 in the all-around in her first season competing on all four events. She previously earned first team selection on the uneven bars in as the Pac-10 co-champion in 2009 and was first team on the balance beam in 2010. Mak, who was recently named by the conference's coaches as the Pac-10 Gymnast of the Year, is currently tied for No. 1 in the nation on the beam, is tied for eighth in the all-around and is ninth on the bars. Last week, Mak won the Pac-10 title in the all-around with a career-high 39.525, won the beam with a career-best 9.95 and tied for the Pac-10 title on the bars.
Stambaugh, a sophomore from Antelope, Calif., the 2010 Freshman of the Year, earned first team accolades on the floor exercise for the second straight year as well as on the uneven bars for the first time in her career.
Kesler, a senior from Kenmore, Wash., earned second team all-conference honors on the bars and beam. These are the second and third honors for Kesler, who was a Pac-10 co-champion on the bars and earned first team honors in 2009.
Colvin, a senior from Eugene, Ore., after scoring 9.85 to tie for fifth at the Pac-10 Championships earned second team honors for the second straight year on the vault.
Receiving All-Pac-10 honors for the first time are Blalock, Ranzy and Vivian. Blalock, a sophomore from Puyallup, Wash., and Ranzy, a freshman from Chesapeake, Va., earned first team honors on the vault after tying for second at the Pac-10 Championships. Vivian, a junior from Perth, Australia, has been ranked No. 1 in the nation on the bars for much of the season and currently ranks No. 3 tied for the Pac-10 title on the bars last week. Vivian earned first team honors on the bars and beam.
Fans can see the action from last Saturday's Pac-10 Championships on FSN NW this Thursday, March 24 at noon and again at 6:30 p.m. The meet will replay Saturday, March 26 at 1 p.m. and Sunday, March 27 at 1 p.m.
