Last Game
Oregon State dropped a 2-1 extra-innings contest to Long Beach State on Saturday in the back end of a doubleaheader at Blair Field. Oregon State opened up the day by winning the first game, 9-6. James Nygren threw three innings for the win in game one while Danny Hayes drove in three and Michael Miller finished with two RBI in the win. In game two, Jake Rodriguez drove in the team's only run and finished with a 2-for-4 effort. The loss in game two snapped Oregon State's 12-game win streak, the team's longest since 2007.
Win Streak Snapped
Oregon State's win streak was snapped at 12 games on Saturday. That tied for the team's longest streak under head coach Pat Casey, equaling a 12-gamer during the 2007 season.
Susac Sees Streak Snapped Too
Andrew Susac's hit streak also was snapped on Saturday, and he ended his at 14 games. He drove in 19 and was 23-for-49 (.469) during the hit streak.
First Ranking
Oregon State is ranked 23rd by Baseball America this week, the first top 25 mark for the Beavers this season. Oregon State also finds itself ranked 22nd in the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 Coaches Poll.
Hayes' Big Bat
Danny Hayes has certainly had a big bat lately and accounted for six of the team's 13 RBI in three-game series at Long Beach State. He was 6-for-12 with three runs and two doubles in addition.
Notes Of Importance
The Beavers are 10-1 in the month of March and can best their 13-3 mark in 1985, which is OSU's best March dating back to 1982.
Oregon State has won 13 of its last 15 games.
The Beavers are 8-0 at Goss Stadium this season. They need two wins to get their best season start at home since 2009 when OSU went 10-0 to begin the year at Goss.
Sam Gaviglio has been named a National Player of the Week. It is his first such award and comes after he took a perfect game into the eighth inning Friday night against Long Beach State.
All four of the Beavers losses have come by one run. That is a program first; OSU had lost its first three games in 1971 and 1991 by one run each game.
OSU and Seattle play two games in the season for the first time since 1963.
